Being a Socratic, a L. positivist, & very opposed to proselytizing i.e. indoctrinating as opposed to educating, I find myself as being a person who is very tolerant of other peoples views. However, I find it to be the case that non-L.P.'ers do not feel the same way toward L.P. - even those who call themselves atheists! I see this as really a lack of education on L.P.
L.P. after all is fundamental to science, yet in my experience, it's only very rarely taught in schools and I believe this due to the lack of education of the educators themselves. So it has to go back to the Universities - why isn't more philosophy required for all students and in particular why aren't the philosophies that underlie science being emphasized when science underlies so much of our world today?
I think it reasonable that if more of the philosophy of science was taught, we'd have much more tolerance to alternative views while at the same time society would have, as a whole, would come to a more complete and better understanding of it's own nature.
So I wonder then how can change be brought about? When not even the great Richard Dawkins seems to be aware of the basics of L.P.? how do we move this topic into the light of society?
I humbly suggest that as a start, L.P.er's take the boiled down core of L.P. and other core science philosophy and start making quotes and slogans. Submit them in a new topic "L.P. quote and slogans" for others to use. We can take these, print them out, put them on T-shirts (maybe even sell some through this website) and start spreading the ideals of science in viral fashion.
